Getting there - Driving instructions:
Kangaroos in the Top Paddock is just over 3 hours drive from Melbourne.
There are two alternative driving routes:
Option 1:
- Take the Western Highway out of the city, pass the turn-off to Ballarat and travel through Ararat and Stawell.
- Continue along the Western Highway 29 km beyond Stawell.
- Turn left into Jackmans Road (a sealed road 30 metres beyond the Northern Grampians Tourist Area sign, 2 km before Dadswell's Bridge).
- Follow Jackmans Road to the first intersection and turn right into Roses Gap Road, watching for the sign "Wartook 23kms".
- Follow Roses Gap Road to its intersection with Northern Grampians Road (approx 19km) and turn left onto Northern Grampians Road.
- Proceed along the Wartook Valley for 4 kms via the Northern Grampians Road.
- Top Paddock is the last entrance on your right before you enter the Grampians National Park.
Option 2:
This route is slower and goes through the Grampians National Park via Halls Gap:
- Take the Western Highway out of the city, pass the turn-off to Ballarat and travel through Ararat and Stawell.
- Turn left at Stawell towards Halls Gap, continuing for approximately 20kms.
- Turn right into Northern Grampians Road and continue for approximately 25kms.
- Top Paddock is the first gate on the left after you leave the Grampians National Park, 4 km. beyond the kangaroo viewing area at Zumsteins.
